Official Results Round 8

AS Jeunesse Esch 0 - 1 SK Slavia Praha
60' Borunsky

The early dismissal of midfielder Enrique Hernández proved costly as Jeunesse found itself floundering with one less man to cover the length of the pitch. Martin Borunsky was once again the toast of Prague as he blasted a scorcher past the opposition keeper to maintain his hot form this season. The result lifted Slavia Praha out of the relegation zone and relieved some of the pressure on their embattled manager.

Santiago Wanderers 2 - 0 Orgryte IS
50' Abarca
55' Appiah

Defensive solidarity plus good attacking discipline saw Santiago triumph at home over a poor Orgryte side. The opposition was obviously outclassed but it was significant that Santiago failed to score more than 2 goals once again. They must hope that their defence holds as the season goes on if they are going to get anywhere. But for Orgryte, it was once again a case of too little too often as the were outplayed in every department. Goalkeeper Antonis Voulgaris was probably best on the ground for them, but the fact that his was an average showing probably said a lot about the team.

Westerlo 3 - 1 Cardiff City AFC
05' Koné
36' De Groot
68' Braekevelt
80' Chester

Westerlo once again chose to do it the hard way as they came from behind to beat Cardiff City AFC. Boubacar Koné was given all the space in the world in the opening five minutes to slot home for the visitors, and it wasn't until close to half time that Westerlo got their act together and served up an equaliser through Luc De Groot. Another Luc, Braekevelt this time put them a goal to the good before wing wizard Andrew Chester executed the finishing blow. Celebrations were quickly dampened though as he was booked for taking his shirt off while running towards the fans. Things threatened to go awry as he was shown his second yellow card three minutes later, but they managed to hold out for the win.

Yokohama Marinos 4 - 0 AGF
15' Dumitrescu
39' Dumitrescu
54' Macfarlane
72' Kouzmanis

After intense media scrutiny over their poor form the past few weeks, Yokohama finally came to its senses, exploding out of the blocks to engineer a handsome win over a hapless AGF. Midfield maestro Irinel Dumitrescu plundered two goals but Ryan Kouzmanis claimed the plaudits with a hand in two goals, notably the well taken fourth. The "Wolverine" had been panned for his loss in form compared to the last two seasons, but gave a sparkling performance to banish his personal demons. Strike partner Ichi Igarashi had another disappointing outing with another sending off.

Alajuelense 0 - 1 Trabzonspor
54' Charlton

A close call for the league leaders as they eked out a win over an Alajuelense side that refused to go down easily. The Turks had the lion's share of possession and had the opposition defence in their sights, but failed to translate that into goals till Roy Charlton's opportunistic strike after half time. Charlton got himself sent off seven minutes before time but in truth, they never really looked like losing.

SK Slovan Bratislava 2 - 3 Manchester United
03' Onishi
06' Koulouris
18' Trucco
27' Koulouris
36' Farrés

Slovan Bratislava's kids almost pulled off a sensational result at home to Manchester United but the Red Devils recovered in time to spare the blushes. The English side looked to be home and coasting to victory with two lightning strikes in the opening six minutes. That was when overconfidence set in and the results wasn't pretty. The Red's defence was caught sleeping as Jesús Alejand Trucco waltzed in and slammed in a goal off the underside of the crossbar. Inspirational number 10 Ioannis Koulouris restored the deficit with his second goal, but it didn't last to the half time whistle as Alexandre Farrés crashed in a second for Bratislava via a sharp deflection off the upright and then a scrambling Dejan Nemec in goal. No further goals were to be had however as a visibly more composed Manchester side took to the field after half time, probably after some choice words from their manager.

3E Clubs in the Cup

SK Lyn (1) 3 - 0 Manchester United (3E)

Vasco da Gama (1) 2 - 0 Cardiff City AFC (3E)

Review: Matches don't get tougher than first division opposition, and with that 3E's involvement in the Cup is over for the season. The teams fought hard, but it was not to be in the end. From today onwards, all energies will be focused on the league. Who stays, and who goes, that will be the only thing on the players' minds now.

It is to be noted that both Cardiff and Manchester Utd. lost first team players through suspension in the cup though. Cardiff will be missing defender Michael Niederhauser after he reached 30 disciplinary points while Manchester United will lose Jean-Alain Laine following a red card.

Official Results Round 9

AS Jeunesse Esch 1 - 0 Santiago Wanderers
90' own goal

No one was surprised that the match between Jeunesse and Santiago ended in a draw, but for once Santiago was on the losing end of a close result. And in the end, it came down to a last minute own goal to break the hearts of the visiting supporters. Both defences had been rock solid through ninety minutes, negating each other's attacks, but when Jeunesse's Daniel Michalek was booked for the second time with eight minutes to go, many felt that it could be the turning point of the match. The home fans had their hearts in their mouth as some end to end action ensued. As the referee prepared to blow his whistle to signify the end of the match, a visibly haggard Seuntjie Zuke pumped a last chance cross high into the penalty box. Team mate Mamadou Diallo rose high to challenge for the aerial ball, but József Bozsik got there first. Unfortunately, the ball hit his shoulder and bulged the net as there was pandemonium in the stands. As it stands, both teams are level on 15 points in mid table.

AGF 1 - 4 Westerlo
09' Carevic
24' Safi
30' Medina
39' Carevic
63' Braekevelt

Last week's heavy defeat was still on the Danish team's minds, and things started off on the back foot as they quickly went a goal down as Enver Carevic celebrated a first start with a real poacher's effort. Things became worse when Othmane Safi doubled the advantage on 24 mins. The AGF defence was all over the place and it was literally against the run of play when a quick break saw Jorge Eduardo Medina net for the home side. All hopes of a revival were quickly killed off by a lively Carevic as he grabbed a second before Braekevelt killed off the game as a contest.

Manchester United 3 - 0 Alajuelense
32' Tenden
56' Peña
58' Roque

More doom and gloom for Alajuelense as they failed to pick up any points on a trip to the Theatre of Dreams. Manchester United were dominant on a sunny Saturday afternoon as two goals in two minutes in the second half were hardly needed. The only cause for concern for the Red Devils will be the suspension of their influential captain Çaglayan Uygun.

Trabzonspor 0 - 1 Yokohama Marinos
36' Vicente

Both teams knew the significance of this match. Win and Trabzonspor would pull away from it's title rivals. Lose and the race would be wide open once again. And in a battle royale that didn't hide the hunger from both sides to win, the visitors from Japan scraped the win. It wasn't a pretty game, with countless yellow cards and a red card being flashed by the referee, but the Yokohama fans will certainly not begrudge the valuable three points. Defender Hélder Vicente rose highest to power home a corner after it had been headed back out by desperation defending by the home defenders, but still had it in him for some last minute drama as he was sent off on the stroke of regulation time. There will be suspension worries for Yokohama with a big match against Manchester United coming up though. Goalkeeper Enomoto, as well as defenders Vicente and Castro will all miss the crunch match. Trabzonspor will also be missing Lithuanian centre back Yevgeni Zurza for the trip to Westerlo, but welcome back midfielders Charlton and Rosnes.

Cardiff City AFC 1 - 1 Orgryte IS
36' Vindis
90' Nini

Cardiff fans will have mixed feelings about this result. For one thing, they'll certainly be viewing it as two points lost instead of one gained. However, they very nearly fell to a shock loss to Orgryte. Only a last minute equaliser from Ronald Nini spared them an ignominious loss to what many saw as inferior opposition. On paper, it would not have been a contest. But on the pitch, Orgyte let their football do the talking, and once Vindis's opener went in, they dared to hope, chasing down every ball and hounding the Cardiff players. But alas it was not to be, as the Bluebirds found an equaliser right at the death.

SK Slavia Praha 5 - 0 SK Slovan Bratislava
04' Kuka
06' Kuka
10' Kuka
14' Lund
50' Marino

Slavia Praha showed no mercy in a 5-0 whipping of basement boys Slovan Bratislava at home. Havlicek Kuka was the man of the moment with an astounding hattrick in the very first ten minutes of the match to stake an early claim on the match ball. It was all over by the 15 minute mark as Danish defender Nikolaj Lund got in to the act with a thumping header. Guillermo Marino completed the humiliation in the 50th minute as he waltzed through a static Bratislava defence. Bratislava remain rooted at the bottom of Division 3E with no points.

Official Results Round 10

SK Slovan Bratislava 1 - 1 AS Jeunesse Esch
76' Diallo
90' Barriendos

Dramatic stuff at Tehelnй Pole as Slovan Bratislava rewarded its long suffering fans with a come from behind draw. Bratislava grabbed their first points of the season as Barriendos struck with seconds to go. AS Jeunesse Esch hadn't looked at their best in this early game as they struggled to exert their dominance against the weakest team in the league. But when Mamadou Diallo strode forward and blasted a shot past their goalkeeper, Bratislava fans thought they'd seen it all before. 9 times before this season, Bratislava had trudged off the field as losers but as the seconds ticked down and the home fans lustily serenaded their beloved team, the impossible happened. There looked to be little danger as Albin Musak latched onto the ball on the left wing, where he'd been toiling to little effect for most of the match. However, Jeunesse's defender Nicola slipped in the mud and he was suddenly through. As the Jeunesse defence closed in and with the home support on the edge of their seats, the young winger cut the ball back nonchalenting to and onrushing Óscar Barriendos. The Spanish midfielder controlled deftly, then swivelled and shot as the stadium erupted.

Alajuelense 0 - 2 SK Slavia Praha
42' Semchuk
66' Semchuk

More misery for Alajuelense as SK Slavia Praha came, saw and conquered, leaving with all three points in the bag. While their season started so promisingly, Alajuelense's form has dropped alarmingly and they now find themselves in relegation trouble. Take nothing away from the visitors though, as Semchuk was once again in game-winning form, closing out the contest with a clinical brace.

Orgryte IS 1 - 2 AGF
11' Skoog
45' Salvador
63' Sánchez

On paper, the Danish visitors are slight favourites. But it certainly didn't look that way as Orgryte midfielder Skoog opened proceedings as AGF looked bereft of ideas and displaying an astonishing inability to string a few decent passes together. The gaffer was visibly fuming at halftime and apparently had words with the team back in the dressing rooms. That seemed to wake AGF up as they started the second half refreshed. Arturo Salvador scored almost straight from the kick off, and as Orgryte surrendered meekly, took control of the match. Sergio Sánchez squeezed another goal in as AGF went ahead and that was that. Orgryte had two players sent off, and what started as a promising day ended up as anything but.

Santiago Wanderers 2 - 1 Cardiff City AFC
15' Appiah
22' own goal
80' Thicot

Santiago was back in winning form as they beat Cardiff City comfortably. Although the scoreline may have suggested a close match, Cardiff hardly gave much of a fight. Santiago captain Appiah scored early on, but it was horrible defending rather than wonderful attacking play from the opposition as they let in an own goal under comical circumstances. Nvula Braybrooke attempted a clearance, kicked his own goalkeeper in the face and as both lay prostrate on the ground, the ball trickled in for the equaliser. Santiago proceeded to lay siege to the Cardiff goal and were rewarded in the 80th minute as Steven Thicot rose highest to head the ball into the net.

Westerlo 3 - 2 Trabzonspor
24' Alverdi
36' Charlton
40' Alverdi
48' Maverino
64' Meuleman

A glorious result for Westerlo as they overtook their opponents for the day and took over sole possession of the division lead. Trabzonspor welcomed back midfield pairing Sven Magne Rosnes and Roy Charlton, but while the latter managed to score and create one, it was ultimately not enough as Westerlo continuously took the game to their more illustrious opponents. Frank Alverdi was stellar with two goals but Afrim Meuleman was the outstanding player on the pitch as he scored the winner in the 64th minute. The only concern for Westerlo was key midfielder Andrew Chester who copped yet another red card and a suspension.

Yokohama Marinos 3 - 1 Manchester United
12' Vukojevic
42' Igarashi
62' Vukojevic
90' Langers

Yokohama continued their recent good run of results with a win over a distinctively young looking Manchester United side. James Macfarlane was dominant in midfield, and while he didn't score, his Croatian counterpart Vukojevic made sure of the points with two goals. Ichi Igarashi got the other while league debutant Robby Langers scored a last minute equaliser for the Red Devils.

Official Results Round 11

AS Jeunesse Esch 2 - 0 Alajuelense
06' Okocha
30' Igor

Based on recent form alone, Alajuelense were never going to win this one. Apart from arguably the first round, Manudos have been really poor by anyone's standards. They are currently wallowing third from bottom and unless something sparks a late revival, they may be going straight back down to division 4. Heads dropped the moment Okocha netted for Jeunesse within 6 minutes, and by the time Igor thrashed in his first goal for the season, it was all but over.

Santiago Wanderers 3 - 0 SK Slovan Bratislava
10' Kovač
30' Al-Sadik
32' Walker

Santiago finally were in a big scoring game and it was no surprise that it came against the worst team in the league. In a pretty much one sided game, defender Simon Kovač was best afield as he arrived late into the penalty area to sidefoot a low cross home on 10 minutes. Nathan Walker sprang into life too, scoring one and creating another.

AGF 2 - 0 Cardiff City AFC
21' Ghaly
28' Raschle

AGF emerged victors from this tough matchup, leapfrogging their opponents in the process and swapping places. It's still early in the season and there is only one point between 8th and 9th place, but there is some physiological comfort from being in front of the invisible relegation line. Manager Daniel Myrberg was back to his fist-pumping self as he saw first Ghaly and then Raschle deliver the goods. Cardiff were virtually handicapped as star player and top scorer Carlos Tevez was sent off in the 24th minute after taking a swing at an opposition defender. The referee had no choice but to show him a straight red card as he was jeered off the field by the delighted home support.

Manchester United 0 - 5 Westerlo
03' Meuleman
36' Safi
48' Meuleman
78' Braekevelt
84' Meuleman

The Red Devils once again fielded a young and inexperienced lineup and table toppers Westerlo gleefully took advantage, showing no mercy as they put 5 past their opponent. Zweli Maki took home the man-of-the-match award, but Afrim Meuleman snaffled the match ball with a super-efficient hattrick. Man U's Eliseo Qunitanilla will miss the next match after he received his marching orders right before half time.

Trabzonspor 1 - 0 Orgryte IS
30' Maverino

Trabzonspor survived the sending off of defender Rikard Dumaz, but had already done enough to see out the match thanks to a first half opener by forward José Mariacu Maverino. Orgryte gave it their best shot, but were no match for a superior Trabzonspor side.

SK Slavia Praha 2 - 2 Yokohama Marinos
28' Klos
54' Semchuk
72' Semchuk
77' Vukojevic

Yokohama manager Jatex Ko was once again left shaking his head ruefully as his team dropped two more vital points on the road. This season has been one of inconsistency and they were held once again thanks to the efforts of Ukranian hitman Maxym Semchuk. He scored a brace to keep his side in the contest as Yokohama saw creative force Irinel Dumitrescu sent off a few minutes after the half time restart for a second yellow card.

Official Results Round 12

Orgryte IS 0 - 2 Yokohama Marinos
36' Igarashi
90' Fierro

Surely Yokohama wouldn't lose a match like this? With their form fuctuating wildly from sheer brilliance to hopeless incompetence, there was cause for scepticism. 18,000 hopeful fans turned up at Gamla Ulevi to witness such an eventuality, but any faint hopes were snuffed out 10 minutes before half time when young Japanese striker Ichi Igarashi scored a crisp effort. "The Killer" started the move himself, turning sharply in midfield and losing his marker before making a beeline for goal. Irfran Friberg made an effort to track back but was bamboozled as Igarashi nutmegged him before finishing with aplomb. Gonzalo Fierro scored with virtually the last touch of the match as Yokohama ran out comfortable winners.

AGF 3 - 0 SK Slovan Bratislava
03' Pederson
15' Pederson
18' Ghaly

If football matches were battles, this would be a clinical execution. Aarhus Gymnastikforening outplayed their opponents in every department, finishing them off before 20 minutes had been played. Nicolas Pedersen grabbed himself a fine brace while Hossam Ghaly contributed a goal. Bratislava's case was not helped by Maros Vidovic's dismissal, but it is safe to say that his being on the pitch would have done nothing much to change the inevitable.

Manchester United 1 - 2 SK Slavia Praha
18' Borunsky
45' Pérez
85' Peña

Manchester United's first team finally made a reappearance after a week's absence but the rest seemed to have done little as they went down at home to Slavia Praha. Martin Borunsky broke the deadlock early and Andrés Eduard Pérez was full of running as he doubled the advantage just before the break. Dionisio Peña scored a late consolation to give the home fans some hope, but it was too little too late.

Trabzonspor 2 - 0 AS Jeunesse Esch
48' Stepanovski
76' Nowak

If Jeunesse fans had any hope that their team would attempt to bring the game to Trabzonspor, it was quickly dismissed as the two teams strode out at Hüseyin Avni Aker. Jeunesse were visibly fielding a team filled with youngsters as they seemed content to blood youngsters in the face of an impossible task. 18 year old defender Jim Buckley had a torrid time marking the Turkish side's star striker José Mariacu Maverino, getting sent off for a wild tackle as he attempted to halt him in his tracks. Florian Stepanovski had a fine game but things were soured somewhat after his goal when teammate Sven Magne Rosnes was shown a second yellow card for taunting the opposition fans.

Cardiff City AFC 0 - 0 Alajuelense

Cardiff looked lost and bereft of inspiration without suspended superstar Carlos Tevez, failing to find the net against Alajuelense. It was a scrappy game littered with yellow cards, but some stout defending from the visitors combined with mispaced passes from both sides meant the team shared the points in a goalless match.

Westerlo 2 - 2 Santiago Wanderers
15' Appiah
40' Landzaat
42' Alverdi
72' Alverdi

Santiago thought they had the game sewn up early as they went 2-0 up at 40 mins. However, Westerlo had other plans as they fought back to level scores. Frank Alverdi was the hero of the night as his brace hauled Westerlo back from the brink while Luc Braekevelt terrorised the Santiago defence in the second half. To add insult to injury, Westerlo somehow held on to the result while finishing with nine men. Luc De Groot and Afrim Meuleman were sent off for second yellow cards, but Westerlo retain the table lead by a point.

Official Results Round 13

SK Slovan Bratislava 1 - 5 Cardiff City AFC
21' Gennaris
24' Constantinides
27' Tevez
45' own goal
75' Tevez
81' Gennaris

Some say it's impossible to win anything with kids. Of course you can sometimes get the occasional surprising result. Young players are generally full of energ and more willing to have a go, but if there's one thing that comes with age, it's experience. Experience to not allow a game to run away from you. It was plain to see as Cardiff turned up at Tehelnй Pole and taught the Bratislava boys a lesson or two. Carlos Tevez returned from suspension and the hunger was plain to see. The Argentinian livewire grabbed a brace, as did Cyprus midfielder Tassos Gennaris.

Alajuelense 1 - 1 Orgryte IS
42' Ottl
90' Fullaondo

Bottom of the table matches can go either way, and this scrappy match was by no means a classic. Andreas Ottl opened the scoring early for Alajuelense but if Alajuelense expected the visitors to roll over and play dead, they were bitterly disappointed. Orgryte threw themselves into every 50-50 challenge and even with a man down after Park copped a dismissal 6 minutes from time, managed to force in an equaliser right at the death. Neither team will be too happy at the result which still leaves them stuck in the relegation mire, but a point might just prove vital when the season comes to a close.

AS Jeunesse Esch 3 - 0 AGF
20' Diallo
25' Garcia
35' Gabriel

There was no begrudging Jeunesse the victory today as they outclassed their opponents and came out three goals to the good. Even the late dismissal of Isaac Siphika did little to spoil the party as they came away with an important three points. AGF were poor with the exception of Hossam Ghaly and their manager will be hoping for an improvement sooner rather than later.

Santiago Wanderers 1 - 1 Manchester United
54' Kovač
55' Roque

If their last two results were very much out of character, Santiago were back to their old form with a low scoring match. The 1-1 result would not have pleased either team unduly but in all honesty, neither team deserved to go home with the win. The game was dull and devoid of much action till Xavier Landzaat broke free on the left and stood up a beautiful ball into the penalty area. Simon Kovač was in the right place at the right time to nod into the net. But before celebrations had died down, the Red Devils' Hélio Roque got the ball from the restart, strode through a static defence and finished coolly for his sixth goal of the season to level scores. The match then reverted back to utter boredom and the fans went back to sleep.

SK Slavia Praha 1 - 1 Trabzonspor
48' Borunsky
60' Santillán

Martin Borunsky may not score as many goals as his more celebrated team mate Maxym Semchuk, but he sure comes up with some important ones as he proved yet again today. In the end, Trabzonspor was undone by some poor discipline, ending the match with nine men, but Slavia Praha will be happy with the point. Isaac Santillán was awarded his first start of te season for Trabzonspor and duely repaid his manager with an equaliser but it was never going to be enough.

Yokohama Marinos 2 - 1 Westerlo
44' Carevic
44' Fierro
56' Kouzmanis

We knew that this was going to be an important match, but nobody realised how significant it would be. Yokohama started the day in third and Westerlo in first, but by the time the dust had cleared, they had swapped places. Yokohama were insipid in the opening exchanges and Westerlo took advantage right before half time. Enver Carevic evaded his marker and stroked home. Instead of crumbling, the opener only served to spur Yokohama into action. With their manager yelling maniacally from the sidelines, Gonzalo Fierro reponded instantly and the Westerlo defence was in real danger of being totally overrun before they were saved by the halftime whistle. The second half started much the same, with Yokohama controlling the tempo and pressuring their opponents whenever they didn't have the ball. Ryan Kouzmanis was in fine form and it wasn't long before he won the match for the home team with a stunning strike.

Official Results Round 14

Orgryte IS 3 - 3 SK Slovan Bratislava
28' Melsom
36' Saarela
44' Fletcher
49' Farrés
56' Lagomarsino
70' Prochaczka

The first match between these two bottom sides was a real doozy, but the return fixture was anything but. For a matchup between two sides a mere eleven goals between them in the 25 matches before this, you might have been forgiven for expecting a snooze fest. Instead, we got what might have been a prime candidate for match of the week. What the players might have lacked in skill, they certainly more than made up for in effort, as they attacked the ball at every opportunity in a match of many ups and downs for both sets of supporters. Bratislava went ahead first as Melsom bulged the home net with a shot from close range. The home side, roared on by the passionate home support, took their chances and finally equalised thanks to a stellar effort from Saarela and finally went ahead after an opportunistic strike from Fletcher. Bratislava winger Farrés leveled the scores after half time only for Orgryte to go ahead once again as defender Lagomarsino scored his first goal of the season. However, Bratislava were not to be denied and lone striker Prochaczka did well to finish and grab a share of the spoils for his team.

AGF 2 - 4 SK Slavia Praha
33' Marino
45' Kuka
54' Leal dos Santos
60' Semchuk
72' Ghaly
72' Kuka

AGF supporters came into this match with every chance of taking something away from the visitors, who have had a topsy turvy season away from home (3 wins, 3 defeats) but seemed to crumble as Slavia Praha were two goals up by halftime. AGF's captain Bogdan Lobon seemed strangely unsure of himself as 4 goals squirmed past him into goal and only Leal dos Santos and Ghaly seemed eager to take the game to their opponents, linking up wonderfully to score two goals that proved not enough in the end. Slavia's twin threats Kuka and Semchuk were outstanding once again as the latter became the first player in Div 3E to enter double figures on the scoring charts this season.

Trabzonspor 0 - 0 Manchester United

No one could have blamed Manchester United manager Bryan Stanley for beaming throughout the match. Not just because his team was holding the mighty Trabzonspor to a credible goalless draw, but also because he just got married over the weekend. Red Devils captain Çaglayan Uygun duely dedicated the win to his gaffer as the travelling fans taunted the home support as the final whistle sounded.

Cardiff City AFC 1 - 0 AS Jeunesse Esch
30' Carlos Tevez

There was only one name on the lips of he Cardiff supporters this night, and once again it was none other than the excellent Carlos Tevez. The Argentinian livewire once again proved the difference in a difficult tie that saw the team evenly matched for most of the match. Jules Erve Kwedi won the ball in midfield and spotted Tevez loitering upfield. Once the pass was found its way to his feet, the Argentinian marksman did the rest.

Westerlo 3 - 1 Alajuelense
09' Braekevelt
30' Árnason
36' Meuleman
63' De Groot

Westerlo were heavily tipped for this match, and they duelly obliged, but not without putting their backers through some heart stopping moments. All seemed to be going according to plan as Luc Braekevelt converted from the edge of the penalty area, his crisp shot going through the legs of two defenders and fooling goalkeeper Mamuka Guchua. However, Þorvaldur Árnason raced through almost the entire Westerlo defenders totally against the run of play as he gave Alajuelense some hope with an equaliser. Most of the Westerlo team had lined up for the corner kick and when it was whipped in and then headed out, Alajuelense midfielder Árnason found himself with space in front of him. Taking off like a startled hare, he twisted past a desperate attempt to tackle by Miro Gašperšić and left Höskuldur Kristófersson on his backside before rounding goaltender Etienne Vandenbrande to score. The away support were momentarily fired up but things were soon back to normal when Afrim Meuleman put Westerlo in the lead once again six minutes later. Luc De Groot added to the deficit in the second half, but there was still time for more drama in the closing minutes as both sides had a man sent off. Alajuelense lost attacker Dexter Martínez first, and he was soon followed down the tunnel by Westerlo's Othmane Safi. Safi's dismissal will be a blow to Westerlo, as he is a player they an hardly afford to miss as they attempt to overhaul Yokohama's slender lead.

Yokohama Marinos 2 - 0 Santiago Wanderers
54' Fierro
60' Vukojevic

Quite a few people were hoping for an upset here, but in the end Santiago were surprisingly outclassed as the division leaders swept them aside easily on the way to a 2-0 win. In hindsight, Yokohama's home form has been nothing short of perfect so fa this season, with this win being the seventh consecutive home win in a faultless run. Youngster Gonzalo Fierro scored his second goal in as many games since his recall to the first team squad.
