So i've been hard at work in the background, ensuring the code behind FG (the bit that makes it awesome) is compatible with the latest
LAMP environment, in preparation to move the site to a new, self-hosted, server.
Most of these changes were pushed out in the last update, the rest have trickled through since and there's a couple of niggles still to be sorted out. However, i've had a test server running for the last few weeks over at
http://www.footballglory.eu (feel free to have a peek - it's just a mirror of Live) and now i can confirm everything works!
The new server is not only more powerful than our existing hardware, it's also cheaper, meaning i can ensure the future of the game for at least a few more years! It's a virtualised cloud server, so increasing the resources is a piece of cake, requiring a bit of cash and a reboot. I'm also in complete control of it, so when something breaks i can't blame the hosts anymore!
I'll get a date finalised soon, but i estimate we'll move over in the next 2 weeks - there's still some bits to finalise, mainly environment configuration. There will be some downtime for the main domain during switch, probably around 4-6 hours (but possibly up to 24 hours). But in that time you'll be able to access the game using the .eu domain. Once the switchover is complete, .eu will just redirect to .com for the time being.
This is just the start of the plans i have to take the game forward and hopefully will help give me the time needed to see them come in to fruition.
