Division 4O Round 1 Recaps

San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 Grasshopper CZ
San Jose, led by veteran goalkeeper Jim Garrido, began the season in strong fashion with a 3-0 victory over the youngsters at Grasshopper CZ. Petter Gilliam put the home side ahead in the 12th min, before Rui Madeira and Kevin Robinson added goals of their own late in the first half to complete the scoring. It was a dominant performance for the Earthquakes, who will be hoping their experience advantage continues to yield positive results.

USM Alger 0 – 1 CDC Atletico Nacional
CDC Atletico Nacional managed to sneak out a 1-0 win at USM Alger thanks to a masterful team defensive performance, and an especially fine performance from defender Eriko Liptonen, who scored the games lone goal in the 33rd min. USM Alger threatened throughout, but CDC’s backline held firm and a red card to Alger’s Salah Mecheri in the 86th min all but ended the home side’s chances at an equalizer.

Once Caldas 2-0 FC Politechnica AEK
Once Caldas rode an 8th min strike from striker Jens Sønderskov to a 2-0 home win over FC Politechnica AEK in a match where the home side appeared to have control throughout. Once the opening goal came, the experience of Once Caldas was too much for the visitors to compete with, and Santiago Monrroy’s 56th min goal iced the game for the home team. The hosts’ will be hoping that their strong start to the season will be a sign of things to come.

KS Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopols 0 – 1 Banska Bystrica
Banska Bystrica took all 3 points from a trip to KS Groclin thanks to a 30th min goal from midfielder Rastislav Antalovic. Banska appeared to be the better team throughout and solid performances from goalkeeper Kamil Hanek and captain Lubos Horvath helped secure the visitors an away victory to start the season. KS Groclin struggled to get into the game and were sent down to 10 men in the closing minutes when Zbigniew Pindel was sent off.

Atlante 3 - 0 FK Vardar
Atlante looks a challenger to the title after an emphatic 3-0 home win over visiting Varder. A first half brace from Englishman Charlie Cole gave the home side a 2-0 lead at the break, and 21yr old defender Miguel Ángel Baragaño finished off the scoring 3 min after the restart. Atlante dominated possession throughout and never looked threated by Vardar’s attempts in attack. Atlante will be looking to repeat such a strong performance next round and continue their quest for the league title.

FC Banants 0 – 3 FC St. Gallen
FC St. Gallen jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead over hosts FC Banants thanks to a double from defender Bruno Bamidelle and a 35min strike from Darko Gorišek and looked in control against a much younger FC Banants side. It was a heated match throughout, and both teams ended with only 10men on the pitch. St. Gallen got a strong performance from defender Pedro Jorge and will be looking to build on their positive start to the season.

Player of Round 1
Eriko Liptonen, Defender, CDC Atletico Nacional, Match Rating 10
Liptonen not only led the CDC defense in a 1-0 road win against MC Alger, but also scored the game's only goal. An excellent performance from the 31yr old Finland international.

Division 4O Round 2 Recaps

Banska Bystrica 2-0 FC Banants
Banska Bystrica continued their winning start to the season with a 2-0 home win over FC Banants. Slovakian midfielder Lubos Horvath put the hosts one up in the 33rd min and Patrik Poncak added a goal of his own in the 72nd. Banska dominated play from the opening whistle and controlled the midfield, playing mostly through 30yr old Kjartan Svendsen who assisted both goals for the home side. For the visitors, the defeat dropped them to last place in the division through two rounds of play.

CDC Atletico Nacional 2 – 3 Atlante
30yr old Greece international Petros Eleftheropoulos scored a second half brace to help secure visiting Atlante a 3-2 win over CDC Atletico Nacional and a share of first place in the division. The match was even throughout, with both teams scoring in the 30th and 50th minutes, before Eleftheropoulos’ 80th min winner. Despite being sent down to ten men after a second yellow card to defender Takis Fyssas, Atlante managed to hold on to secure a huge away victory.

Grasshopper CZ 1 – 3 Once Caldas
Despite a debut goal from 16-year-old João Francisco da Silva Júnior, the young Grasshopper CZ side fell at home 3-1 to Once Caldas. The young Brazilian gave the hosts a surprise lead in the 12th min after being assisted by 17yr old Gareth Bale, but the visitors responded almost immediately with a goal from Antonis Hasiotis. Jens Sønderskov added his second goal of the season in the 24th min before Amara Diane put the game away in the 80th. Once Caldas stay tied for first with a perfect start to the season and look to maintain their form next round vs. FC St Gallen. The host side look to be set for a difficult season, but show glimpses of what the future might bring for Grasshopper CZ.

FC St Gallen 2 – 0 San Jose Earthquakes
Home side FC St Gallen moved atop the division with a 2-0 win over San Jose Earthquakes thanks to first half strikes from Danilo Octavio Millar and Regis Alba. St Gallen got excellent play from its backline and goalkeeper Miroslav Bubalo is yet to be scored on this season. San Jose played well throughout but couldn’t find a way through the St Gallen defense. FC St Gallen face a tough match next round vs. Once Caldas, while San Jose hosts Banska Bystrica.

FC Politechnica AEK 1 – 0 USM Alger
Despite a 56th min red card to forward Danny Wauters, FC Politechnica were able to hold on to a 1-0 home win against USM Alger thanks to a 48th min goal from 23yr old Romanian Csaba Belenyesi. It was a very tight match, with neither team getting a lot of chances on goal. In fact, the only thing separating these two sides was the outstanding play of Politechnica goalkeeper Ivo Pereira who at times seemed to single handedly keep his team in the lead. It was a tough defeat for USM Alger who after two 0-1 defeats to start the season find themselves in 9th place.

FK Vardar 0 – 1 KS Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopols
A 54th min strike from Polish defender Antoni Mikołajczak was all visiting KS Groclin needed to secure a 1-0 win over hosts FK Vardar. The visiting side enjoyed the majority of possession, and after a scoreless opening half, Pawel Gawroński assisted Mikołajczak for the game’s only goal 9 min after the restart. The hosts fought to find an equalizer but a 75th min red card to Jan Pahor seemed to take the wind out of Vardar’s sails, who slipped to 10th place with their second straight loss to open the season.

Player of Round 2
Petros Eleftheropoulos, Forward, Atlante, Match Rating 10
Eleftheropoulos’ second half brace saw Atlante claim an away victory against CDC Nacional and lifted them into a tie for first place. Alongside fellow forward Charlie Cole, the Atlante front line has combined for 4 goals in just 2 games and look to be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season.

Division 4O Round 3 Recaps

USM Alger 2-0 Grasshopper CZ
USM Alger got their first points of the season to climb out of last place with a 2-0 home win over Grasshopper CZ. Lakhdar Meziane opened the scoring in the 28th min, running onto a pass from Sandor Margitai before finishing past Grasshopper keeper Pablo Fuentes. The home side was in control from the start against an outmatched Grasshopper team, and 24 year old Algerian international Abdelaziz Smaïli put the game out of reach in the 76th min when he headed home a cross from Meziane to put the hosts up 2-0. The win was a big boost for Alger, after dropping its first two matches to identical 1-0 score lines, and they will be hoping to continue their new winning streak next round when they take on FC St. Gallen.

Once Caldas 0 – 1 FC St. Gallen
In a tightly contested battle for first place, visiting FC St. Gallen snuck out a 1-0 victory over Once Caldas thanks to a breakaway goal from midfielder Moris Abed. The former Israeli international sprinted onto a long ball from defender Mikael Forsell in the 66th min before calmly slotting past the keeper. It was an even match throughout, with chances hard to come by thanks to such strong defensive performances, but in the end, FC St. Gallen was able to get the goal they needed to move into first place in the division.

FC Banants 1 – 1 FK Vardar
It was a heated fixture at Kotayk Stadium as both FC Banants and FK Vardar finished with 10men in a 1-1 draw. 23-year-old Arsen Gspeian headed home a free kick from captain Aram Bergamyan in the 22nd to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime. However, 15min after the break, veteran Pauleta managed to get to the end of a Dusan Bukna corner to share the points. Both teams were sent down to 10men early in the second half with Akap Nazarian receiving his second yellow for the hosts in the 61st min, after Tome Trajcov had been sent off in the 50th for his second yellow of the match.

KS Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopols 1 – 0 Atlante
Atlante’s early title hopes took a hit with a 1-0 loss at KS Groclin thanks to a 36th min goal from Kriszti Erdos. Despite having the best scoring front line through two rounds, Atlante was shut down by the hosts’ backline and rarely saw chances at goal. Veteran back Tomasz Siwek was particularly impressive anchoring the Groclin defense, at times seeming to single handedly cover the entire final third of the pitch. Atlante will be particularly disappointed in the performance of striker Charlie Cole, who after such a great start to the season was sent off in the 32nd min after committing a series of petty fouls. The result saw Groclin rise into a three-way tie for third, even with Atlante on 6 points.

FC Politechnica AEK 2 – 2 CDC Atletico Nacional
Visiting CDC Atletico came from behind twice, taking advantage of a Regis Eloi’s dismissal in the 79th min to earn a 2-2 draw against FC Politechnica. The hosts took the lead in the 24th min after a Nigel Watene header, but Atletico responded quickly and in the 27th min Korean striker Tae-Soo Yoo pulled his side level. American midfielder Rob Wise sent Politechnica into the break with a 2-1 lead thanks to his goal in the 36th min, being set through by an excellent long ball from defender Abraham Igles. However, the hosts were unable to hold on and after being sent down to 10min in the 79th min, Ruben Perez scored the equalizer for Atletico, tapping home a cross from Csaba Szabics.

San Jose Earthquakes 0 – 2 Banska Bystrica
Banska Bystrica put on a masterful performance away from home to take a 2-0 victory against San Jose behind Kjartan Svendsen’s second half double. Banska controlled the midfield with 58% possession and played exceptional at the back, never looking overly threated by the San Jose attack. After a scoreless first half, Svendsen played a quick 1-2 with forward Patrick Poncak before firing a low shot just inside the far post to give his side a 1-0 lead in the 50th min. Svendsen doubled that advantage in the 85th when he rose to meet a cross from Stefan Kakascik and headed home. The victory moved Banska Bystrica level with FC St. Gallen on 9 points for first place.

Player of Round 3
Kjartan Svendsen, Midfielder, Banska Bystrica, Match Rating 9
Thanks to Svendsen’s second half double, Banska Bystrica moved into a tie for first place after 3 rounds of play. The 30 year old Norwegian international is enjoying a fantastic start to the season, with 4 goals and 2 assists in just 5 games in all competitions, and with his current form, Banska look to be a real title threat.

Division 4O Round 4 Recaps

Atlante 4-0 FC Banants
Atlante bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 4-0 thrashing of FC Banants thanks to a double from 22-year-old Aras Taşkın. Mexican international Manuel Osorno gave the hosts the lead in just the 9th minute when he headed home a Belgin Petev corner. Khemaïes Zitouni doubled the Atlante lead in the 18th minute with a close range tap in off a Petev free kick. Taşkın then added a pair of his own in the 21st and 69th minutes, both assisted by Zitouni. Atlante will be hoping that the victory helps them regain their momentum in the title race.

Banska Bystrica 1-0 Once Caldas
An early goal from Kjartan Svendsen was all Banska Bystrica needed to continue their unbeaten start to the season. Svensen received a ball from Jaroslav Moravcik on the edge of the box before unleashing an unstoppable shot that snuck inside the far post. Bystrica controlled the tempo throughout, keeping 59% of possession and never allowing the visitors a clear chance at goal. The Bystrica defense has certainly played a huge part in the teams early successes, and through 4 rounds of play are still yet to give up a single goal. The January 22nd match vs. FC St Gallen may already be on the minds of several players as the teams are level on 12 pts in first place in the division.

CDC Atletico Nacional 1-0 KS Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopols
Defender Goran Jancevski headed home a corner kick from Luis Alonso in the 9th minute, and the CDC Atletico defense held strong to hold off visiting KS Groclin in a 1-0 victory. Jancevski, who was a mainstay in the Grasshopper CZ defense for over two years in Division 3, scored his first goal since his transfer to Atletico Nacional in November. It was a very tight and often scrappy affair throughout, with both teams finishing on 10 men, however, performances from the CDC defenders such as Jancevski and Liptonen made the difference and secured 3pts for the home side.

FC St Gallen 2 – 0 USM Alger
Leaders FC St Gallen scored 5 minutes into each half to maintain their perfect start to the season. Regis Alba chipped the keeper wonderfully in the 5th min after running onto a through ball from Moris Abed, and Danilo Octavio Millar doubled the hosts’ lead after being played in by Darko Gorišek. A 79th minute red card to midfielder Jimmi Lyngsi did little to change the outcome of the game, as the hosts were in control from the opening whistle. Like Banska Bystrica, who are level with 12 pts, the FC St Gallen defense has yet to concede a goal, largely in part due to strong performances from Pedro Jorge and Joe Flachbert.

Grasshopper CZ 2 - 3 FC Politechnica AEK
Hosts Grasshopper CZ put on a strong performance but in the end came up just short in a 2-3 defeat to FC Politechnica AEK. Canadian Justin Benjamin gave Politechnica the lead just 4 minutes in, after being put through by Rob Wise. 20-year-old Issa Ibrahim Do Marcolino headed the home side level in the 49th minute after a fantastic cross from young phenom João Francisco da Silva Júnior to send the home fans into a frenzy. However, the excitement was short lived as goals from Salach Keise and Rob Wise put the visitors back in control. 21 year old Ivan Gentizon pulled one back for the hosts in the 77th min with a well struck free kick, but there would be no equalizer for Grasshopper CZ. The win moved Politechnica into a tie for 4th place with 7 points, while Grasshopper CZ stay in last on 0 points during the first year of their rebuilding process.

FC Vardar 0 – 3 San Jose Earthquakes
A 22nd min red card to Gonzalo Edgar Dominguez doomed home side FC Vardar as they were handled 3-0 by travelling San Jose behind a Craig Simmons brace. Dominguez received his marching orders after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession early in the first half, before Craig Simmons broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute with a right-footed volley off of a Rui Madeira cross. The same combination was in action again in the 60th minute as Simmons was able to get on the end of a Madeira through ball before finishing calmly past the Vardar keeper. Madeira managed to get his own name on the score sheet just 6 minutes later as he headed home a corner from Alexander Decastel.

Player of Round 4
Rui Madeira, Forward, San Jose Earthquakes, Match Rating 9
Madeira was outstanding in his side’s 3-0 road win vs. FC Vardar, assisting on two goals before scoring one of his own. The 25 year old is enjoying the best form of his career right now, and is steadily becoming a star player in San Jose.

Division 4O Round 5 Recaps

USM Alger CZ 0 - 3 Banska Bystrica
Banska Bystrica moved into sole possession of first place with a 3-0 road win over USM Alger, inspired by a second half brace from Patrik Poncak. The visitors dominated throughout, taking an early lead when Aratz Acut headed home a corner from Patrik Poncak. Poncak doubled the lead in the 68th minute on a clever chip over the goalie after a through ball from Juraj Gasper. The game was put out of Alger’s reach in the 80th minute when Kjartan Svendsen crossed in from the left to an open Poncak who made no mistake with his headed finish. Banska goalkeeper Kamil Hanek continued his fantastic start to the season and is still yet to allow a goal in league play.

FC Politechnica 0 – 0 FC St. Gallen
FC St. Gallen fell out of first place with a 0-0 draw at FC Politechnica. The match was evenly contested, with chances at a premium. Both teams played fantastic defense and neither were able to get into a rhythm in the final third of the pitch. Pedro Jorge put in another stellar defensive performance for the visitors, receiving his 4th man of the match in just 5 appearances. In the end, the Politechnica defense did enough to earn a valuable point against the former leaders, while FC St. Gallen remain in second after dropping their first points of the season.

Once Caldas 0 – 0 FK Vardar
In a cagey contest at the Estadio Palogrande, hosts Once Caldas held on for a 0-0 draw against FK Vardar, despite a 24th minute red card midfielder Osvaldo Mosquera. Mosquera was handed his marching orders after a two footed lunge on Vardar forward Pauleta, and Once Caldas was never able to get into the game once they were a man down. Vardar, currently 10th in the league, clearly played for a draw, dropping 10 players behind the ball and rarely looking to get anything going offensively. Goalkeeper Aleksei Kink gave a masterful performance to earn the visitors and much valued point on the road.

FC Banants 0 - 4 KS Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopols
FC Banants received a brutal beating from visitors KS Groclin to move them into last place in the division. It took just 5 minutes for the traveling side to take the lead as Pior Kiszczak curled a free kick into the upper corner. Milos Kalka scored his first of two on the day in the 25th minute, turning and shooting low to beat the keeper after receiving a pass from Alexander Ozols. The hosts fell behind 3-0 in the 35th when defender Cheick Diakite misplayed a long ball from Groclin defender Frankowski, allowing Pawel Gawronski free on goal where he finished calmly for his first goal of the season. Kalka finished the scoring in the 45th after intercepting a pass and unleashing and unstoppable effort from 22 yards out.

San Jose Earthquakes 0 - 2 Atlante
Petros Eleftheropoulos’ second half brace after a scoreless first half gave Atlante a 2-0 win over hosts San Jose. The San Jose defense managed to disrupt Atlantes potent offense over the opening half, but it took just 4 minutes after the break for the leagues top offense to break through. Eleftheropoulos received a pass from Ruben Carpizo on the edge of the box, before expertly turning past his marker and finessing a right footed shot past San Jose keeper Todd Hart. Despite a 59th minute red card to forward Zitouni, Atlante was able to double their advange in the 84th when Eleftheropoulos tapped home a low cross from Nikolay Praslov. The win keeps Atlante in 3rd place on 12pts, 1 pt out of the promotion spots.

Grasshopper CZ 2 – 2 CDC Atletico Nacional
Grasshopper CZ managed their first points of the season with a 2-2 home draw against CDC Atletico Nacional. 17 year old Octavian Astilean put the hosts ahead in the 16th minute, an advantage that held through the halftime break. However, the visitors used a 10min period of strong play to go in front. Midfielder Ruben Perez equalized in the 64th min, heading from close range on a cross from Tae-Soo Yoo. Tae-Soo Yoo was the architect once again in the 72nd minute as he broke down the right wing, before playing a square ball across to Henk Vennema who fired into the top of the net for a 2-1 lead. The hosts managed a deserved point when 20 year old midfielder Issa Ibrahim Do Marcolino took advange of Eriko Liptonen’s dismissal and found enough space in the defense to fire a low drive from 22 yards that just beat the keeper.

Player of Round 5
Petros Eleftheropoulos, Forward, Atlante, Match Rating 10
Petros Eleftheropoulos scored both goals for his side as Atlante claimed a 2-0 road win to move within 1pt of a promotion spot. Eleftheropoulos has been a huge part of Atlante’s league leading offense, with 4 goals in 5 league appearances.

Division 4O Round 6 Recaps

FK Varder 1 – 1 USM Alger
A 72nd minute strike from Pauleta rescued a point for hosts FK Vardar and Mohamed Adouane put visitors USM Alger ahead in the 30th minute. The match was very even throughout as both teams looked to try and move from the bottom 3rd of the division, but in the end the spoils were rightfully shared. Adouane put the traveling side ahead on the half hour mark as he rose the highest to head home a cross from Lakhdar Meziane. Shortly after, Alger was sent to 10 men as striker Sandor Margital was shown red for a lunge on Varder midfield Dusan Bukna. Alger shifted to a more defensive strategy after the break, but Varder found the equalizer 18 minutes from time when Pauleta finished coolly after a quick one-two with Igor Kostovski.

Atlante 3 - 0 Once Caldas
Atlante’s high octane attack was on display again at the Estadio Azteca during a 3-0 thrashing of traveling Once Caldas. It took just 4 minutes for the hosts to take the lead, as Carlos Lopez got on the end of a free kick from Omar Solis and slotted past the keeper. Lopez turned provider 1 minute before the break as his perfectly weighted through ball found Petros Eleftheropoulos who made no mistake in scoring his division leading 5th goal of the season. The home side completed the scoring in the 80th minute when Belgin Patev tapped home a low cross from Lopez for his first goal of the year. Atlante, currently in 3rd place, moved to a perfect 3 wins in 3 home games on the year, scoring 10 while conceding none.

CDC Atletico Nacional 2 - 0 FC Banants
CDC Atletico Nacional moved into 5th place with a 2-0 home win over bottom dwellers FC Banants, thanks to a strong performance from 30 year old Bulgarian Donko Yanchev. Yanchev put his side in front in the 44th minute with a well taken free kick that just dipped under the crossbar from 27 yards out. It was a well deserved lead for the hosts, who controlled possession throughout, and their lead was doubled in the 76th minute when American J.J. Shaffer’s left footed strike found the back of the net after a well placed pass from Flaminio Ortega. The loss continued a tough start to the season for FC Banants, who have just 1 point from 6 matches, scoring only 1 goal thus far this season.

FC St. Gallen 2 - 0 Grasshopper CZ
Despite a 24th minute red card to Darko Gorisek, hosts FC St. Gallen defeated Grasshopper CZ 2-0 to hold on to their second place position. The Saints remain 2pts out of first place, but have still yet to concede this season. Danilo Millar gave the home side the lead midway through the first half when he sent a powerful header past Grasshopper keeper Pablo Fuentes after Ivan Schwizer crossed from the left wing. Grasshopper’s inexperience was on display again, and the visitors always seemed outmatched against the strong defense of the home side. Jose Perez doubled the Saints’ advantage 6 minutes from time, receiving a pass from Schwizer before calmly chipping past the oncoming Fuentes.

Banska Bystrica 1 - 0 FC Politechnica AEK
Defender Stefan Kakascik scored the only goal of the match as Banska Bystrica stood firm in first place vs. traveling FC Politechnica. The 30 year old Slovakia international scored just his 15th career goal in over 330 appearances as he headed home a corner from Juraj Gasper in the 15th minute. The hero of the match, however, was undoubtedly Banska’s keeper Kamil Hanek. The 30 year old put in a masterful performance between the sticks to move his streak to 6 games without conceding to open the season. Hanek twice denied Politechnica forward Danny Wauters on breakaways and was an authoritative leader at the back throughout the game. His finest save came in the 72nd minute when he dove left to push a wonderfully struck free kick from Rob Wise past his post, leaving the traveling fans in dismay. Despite the defeat, Politechnica will feel pleased with their performance and look to continue their good form next round against FK Vardar.

KS Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopols 2 - 0 San Jose Earthquakes
KS Groclin scored twice after the break to defeat traveling San Jose and stay in 4th place. The first half was rather cautious as both teams seemed nervous about falling behind. The halftime break saw both teams become more adventurous and Tomasz Siwek opened the scoring in the 63rd when he met a corner from Alexander Ozols and sent a powerful header just inside the far post. San Jose searched hard for an equalizer, but was taken out of the game in the 81st when 21 year old defender John Pickett not only saw red for his second yellow of the match, but conceded a penalty for a rash challenge on Groclin striker Mariusz Mroz. Mroz made no mistake from the spot, sending keeper Todd Hart the wrong way with a powerful strike for his first goal of the season.

Player of Round 4
Kamil Hanek, Goalkeeper, Banska Bystrica, Match Rating 10
Kamil Hanek put in a magnificent performance in Bystrica’s 1-0 home win over FC Politechnica. Hanek’s 6 saves were key in Bystrica maintaining its unblemished start to the season, as they currently lie in first place with a perfect 18 points from 6 matches, yet to concede a single goal.

Division 4O Round 7 Recaps

FC Politechnica 1-0 FK Vardar
Csaba Belényesi scored 5 minutes from time to earn hosts FC Politechnica all three points against travelling FK Vardar. Belényesi met a through ball from defender Abraham Igles and the 23 year old finished with a well placed left footed shot past keeper Aleksei Kink. Politechnica is currently in 6th place, and unbeaten in 4 at home. Vardar, however, rest near the bottom of the table and will be looking to rebound on the weekend when they hosts Grasshopper CZ.

San Jose Earthquakes 4-0 FC Banants
Bottom dwellers FC Banants continued their struggles by receiving a 4-0 thrashing at San Jose. The home side scored 3 times in 15min to end the first half before Alexander Decastel added his second of the match in the 63rd to wrap up the scoring. The home side was dominant throughout, with 62% of possession and nearly all the scoring chances. Banants is currently last in the table, with just 1 point from their opening 7 matches, scoring only 1 goal while conceding 20.

Grasshopper CZ 0 - 3 Banska Bystrica
First place Banska Bystrica maintained their perfect start to the season with a 3-0 win away to Grasshopper CZ. Striker Patrik Poncak opened the scoring just 10min in when he out jumped Grasshopper defender Alcaly Sagna to head home a cross from Juraj Gaspar. The same combo was in action again in the 36th when Poncak broke down the left wing, before pulling the ball back to Gaspar who fired a low shot past keeper Pablo Fuentes. Poncak completed the scoring in the 40th minute when he rounded off a swift one-two with Stefan Pisar and slotted home his 5th of the season. Banska have been in incredible form to start the season, winning all seven of their matches, and are still yet to concede.

FC St Gallen 2 – 0 CDC Atletico Nacional
Hosts FC St Gallen overcame a red card to defender Jan Flachbart to hold on to a 2-0 win vs. CDC Atletico Nacional. Flachbart received his second yellow in just the 40th minute, after Danilo Millar had given his side the advantage just before the half hour mark with his 4th goal of the season. Despite playing a man down, St Gallen was able to double their advantage in the 70th minute when Moris Abed scored on a wonderfully struck shot from just outside the box. The win keeps St Gallen in second place, 2 points behind leader Banska Bystrica.

USM Alger 0 - 3 Atlante
USM Alger suffered a red card to defender Vladimer Darsadze and an own goal by Nilson da Silva in a 4min span in the second half of a 3-0 loss to travelling Atlante. Atlante, who had 58%, continued to ride their high-octane attack, and it took just 12min for them to find the net in this match. Defender Angel Figueroa headed down a corner to Steen Bartholdy who tapped in from close range for his first goal of the season. Atlante took advantage of a set piece just four minutes later when Ruben Carpizo swung in a free kick from the left wing and Manuel Osorno rose highest to send a powerful header past the helpless Rachid Sahraoui. Atlante currently lie in 3rd, 1 point out of the promotion spots through 7 matches.

Once Caldas 1-0 KS Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopols
Colombian Josip Augusto Diaz scored the game winner in injury time to send the Estadio Palogrande into ecstasy and gave Once Caldas a much needed 1-0 win over visiting KS Groclin. The 29year old midfielder received a pass from Antonis Hasiotis, skipped pass two defenders, and fired a right footed strike just inside the post for his first goal of the season, and one of the most important of his career. Groclin, who currently lie in 4th place, suffered a 65th minute red card to defender Zbigniew Pindel and will feel unlucky to not have left with a share of the spoils.
